About Shema Koleinu

Made possible thanks to the Lottery Heritage Fund

UK Jewry has a rich musical-liturgical heritage which has developed over 400 years, combining diverse traditions of immigrants from Spain, Germany, Poland, North-Africa and the Middle East. These traditions continue to be supplemented by local creativity. This heritage includes prayers, poems, melodies and rituals used in daily prayer and life-cycle events.

Shema Koleinu, the new Masorti Prayer website, captures that tradition and makes it accessible. Its purpose is to develop the skills of leaders and participants in local Jewish communities. It seeks to preserve a rich tradition and to pass it on.  The hope is that it deepens understanding, engenders a sense of spirituality and fosters community.

This site is in development and we welcome your feedback as we continue to create and upload recordings and materials. Please let us know what you’d like to find here.
