Introduction
The Dr Lionel Kopelowitz Haftarah Project
Lionel Kopelowitz z”l regarded the reading of the haftarah as one of the key elements of the Shabbat and Festival services. Over the course of his life, and at many different synagogues, he managed to leyn every single haftarah. He would have been enormously proud of this part of the Shema Koleinu Masorti Tefillah skills website. It makes accessible recordings of all the various haftarot, along with easy-to-follow guides to the notes and symbols. We hope that they will encourage members of our communities to join in this special part of our services by leyning a haftarah. Lionel’s stepson, David Waksman, and his wider family are delighted to have helped bring this important project to fruition.
